Rice Intermediate Teacher of the Year!
Ms. Smitley is a dedicated teacher and has served our Apache students for 10 years. Her willingness to accept coaching and feedback has allowed her to grow immensely over the past two years. This is evident in the growth her students displayed in their reading fluency scores during our Amplify benchmark testing. A great deal of learning was lost due to the pandemic, and she was able to help her students close this gap and become grade-level readers.

Apache Culture Week Presenters
We had about a dozen presenters come out to present their art and skills for our students. Nathaniel Wright - Artist, Priscilla Miller - Campdress Making, Carol Hunter - Acorn Grinding, Samantha Hunter - Beadwork.
Apache Culture Week Presenters
We also had various departments from the community join us as well. They included the SCPD, SCFD, Wellness Center and SC Forestry, just to name a few.

Apache Culture Week!
The SCMS and SCHS Drum Group were invited to perform throughout the week. Our students love to dance!

TEACHER OF THE YEAR!
Ms. Smitley is our Teacher of the Year! Congratulations!

Gift Card Incentive
Our students receive gift cards from Subway, Pizza Hut and Walmart when they complete their objectives in intervention.

Back to Full-Time
All of our students returned to full-time classes on March 7th!

Calming Room
To help alleviate stress, anxiety and historical trauma, RIS has created a calming room for our students. The calming room was designed to regulate our students' emotions and to reduce negative thoughts that have affected their academic performance and social skills.
